Commerce Replatforming

Moving a slow, fragile storefront onto an architecture that carries peak season without falling over.

Challenge

The store handled ordinary traffic and collapsed on the first day of a sale. Product pages took over four seconds, and checkout failed silently under load with no message a customer could understand.

Solution

We separated the storefront from the order system, added pre-rendering with incremental revalidation, and rewrote checkout as a single resumable transaction. Every failure now shows a message explaining what happened and what to do next.

Impact

Peak became a commercial event rather than an engineering one, and the team stopped spending launch nights watching dashboards.

How we delivered it

  1. 01

    Measure

Real performance measured on customers' devices and networks, not in a lab.

  2. 02

    Separate

Storefront decoupled from the order system behind a stable API.

  3. 03

    Rewrite

A new resumable checkout with explicit error handling.

  4. 04

    Load test

Simulated peak above the forecast, two weeks before launch.
